Dr Coffey is a Consultant Psychiatrist with a wide range of experience in adult and old age psychiatry. She has worked as a psychiatrist in the NHS and independent sector for over twenty years. Being on the GMC specialist register in psychiatry approved under section 12(2) she has special experience in the diagnosis or treatment of mental disorder. Dr Coffey is on the Approved clinicians’ list.
Dr Coffey has significant medico-legal experience; she is accredited as an expert and hold Cardiff University Law School Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate. She has experience in various capacity related issues including Court of Protection forms.
Prior to embarking on psychiatric training, Dr Coffey has worked as a GP and emergency doctor. She maintains her interest in new developments regarding diagnosis and treatment of various medical and neuropsychiatric conditions.
Dr Coffey’s initial psychiatric training took place at UMDS/ South Thames regional training scheme in psychiatry at Guy’s and St Thomas College, London, with most of her training placements in Sussex and London. She completed her higher specialist training in psychiatry on North East Thames training scheme, mainly in London but also in Essex. During Dr Coffey’s psychiatric training, she gained experience in all areas of psychiatry including General Adult Psychiatry (both inpatient and outpatient settings), Rehabilitation, Old Age, Liaison Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry.
Dr Coffey holds experience in all areas of psychiatry, with additional experience and training in psychotherapy. She assesses and treats patients with depression, bipolar affective disorder, psychosis, bereavement, stress, personality issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, mild cognitive disorder, dementia, menopausal mood changes, and other conditions.
Dr Coffey’s clinical interests are in the field of psychiatry for adults over the age of 18. She assesses and treats patients with the most common psychiatric conditions. Dr Coffey is particularly interested in combining my skills as a doctor with psychotherapy and management of physical health problems.
Her other areas of interest are assessment and management of memory problems, menopausal problems, mild cognitive disorder and dementia.
Current NHS Post
Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Persons Mental Health at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. I assess and treat elderly patients in the catchment area who present with functional mental disorders or cognitive problems. I have a weekly Memory clinic to assess and diagnose various memory problems. Previously, I worked with working age adults (male and female) with various psychiatric disorders including all common mental disorders, personality problems, substance misuse issues and emotional problems.

Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, stress, posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar affective disorder, personality disorder, menopausal mood changes, memory problems, mild cognitive disorder, treatment of dementia, mental health problems in older people.
